Does this picture look familiar - your lawn maybe?
Brown, crisp, inch (or more) deep leaves everywhere.
My mom's yard was covered in leaves.
So we discussed whether we should rack, blow or yes - leave the leaves.
We asked our friend Adam Sylvester - The Lawn Artist for his advise - here it is:
#1 Remove ALL leaves. Leaves kill the grass and look terrible. If you are asking yourself "is this really important"? YES!
and that's not all you should do for your lawn as spring approaches:
#2 Use a simple fertilizer and seed around the 1st week of March. Southern States and Snow's can help you chose the best for your lawn.
#3 Trim your bushes. It's easy to forget. It doesn't matter when - just do it! You'll be so glad you did.
#4 DON'T AERATE! I know it's radical, yet my 13 years of experience tells me it's not helpful. Instead, I've applied simple fertilizer and seed to new client's lawn that has been aerated your years and the results are amazing - it pops. 90% of lawns don't respond well to holes in the ground. I use other methods to improve lawns and my clients are happy.
Your lawn will look this -
